This position involves a great deal of patient contact as well as interaction with physicians of various specialties in the hospital. Duties include (but are not limited to) recruitment of patients, assessment of eligibility criteria, administration of questionnaires, coordination of study visits, drawing blood, obtaining specimen form the operating room, processing of biospecimens, obtaining regulatory approvals, and maintaining accurate databases. S/he will have proven abilities to work autonomously, bearing independent responsibility to ensure data accuracy and timely follow through of study procedures. The selected candidate will be involved in research and development projects in joint reconstruction. Responsibilities will include building musculoskeletal and finite element models of virtually implanted total knee replacements to assess the effect of implant design and alignment on joint kinematics and loads, ligament balance, and the interaction between implant and bone. Mentoring and training will be provided by the HSS Biomechanics staff in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons from the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement service and staff of the Radiology and Imaging Department. The goal of the fellowship is to provide the trainee with a broad, multidisciplinary experience. For applicants who are citizens of the United States or green card holders, possibilities exist for NIH support through a T32 Combined Engineering and Orthopaedics Training Program at HSS and TL1 Training and KL2 Scholar Awards offered by Weill Cornell Medical College’s Clinical and Translational Science Center. - Candidates must have a strong mechanical engineering background including finite element modeling (Abaqus preferred), musculoskeletal modeling (OpenSim preferred), MATLAB, image processing, and must possess excellent written and oral communication and team science skills. - Salary is competitive and will depend on the experience level of the candidate. The Moore Lab focuses on improving recovery from orthopedic soft tissue injuries using biomaterials and drug delivery approaches.   The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team of surgeons, scientists and engineers, in a project aiming to develop of biomaterials to modulate pro-fibrotic signaling after musculoskeletal injuries.   Qualified candidates must have a recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology or a related field. Preferences will be given to candidates with expertise in biomaterials synthesis, modification and characterization. Candidates are expected to have at least one peer-reviewed high quality first author publication and should be highly motivated and productive. However, the underlying mechanisms are far from understood. Our lab studies osteoimmunology, an interdisciplinary field linking bone biology and the immune system, focusing on inflammatory regulation of gene expression, and signaling in macrophage differentiation to osteoclasts (see the model of a new molecular regulatory network we recently identified), adipogenesis, skeletal damage and repair involved in disease (such as osteoporosis and inflammatory arthritis).   Ongoing studies include identification, function and regulation of bone marrow skeletal stem/progenitors, inflammatory regulation of macrophage polarization and differentiation into osteoclasts in osteoimmunology field.
