EXPERIENCE REQUIRED   As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, the successful RN candidate will be focused on – patient advocacy and delivering the highest quality of care to our patients!  Working in an evidence-based nursing environment that commands excellence every day, you will provide comprehensive peri-operative nursing care to our patients and their families in this acute care setting.  Our core values center on respect, consideration, compassion for all individuals and maintaining awareness of diverse cultural and religious beliefs.  Your capacity to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and promote the highest standards of care and safety is critical to the mission of Nursing in HSS.   The Ambulatory Surgery Unit  is located on the ninth floor of the main hospital building. The center consists of a waiting/registration area, 10 pre-anesthesia holding rooms, 2 isolation pre-anesthesia holding room, 9 operative suites, a 17 bay/bed Acute Post Anesthesia Care Unit, which includes 15 beds, 2 isolation rooms, and a Sub Acute Post Anesthesia Care Unit which includes 8 recliners.  Support areas include a patient nourishment station, a physical therapy room, 2 physician consultation rooms, Surgeon dictation room, anesthesia work room, a decontamination area, a dedicated “dirty” elevator to central supply and the fourth floor operating rooms, a dedicated “clean” elevator to central supply and the fourth floor operating rooms, 2 staff locker rooms and a staff lounge.    Responsibilities - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing practices in a clinical setting - Collect comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs & develop individualized care plans; update care plans based on progression and pathway as well as manage care delivery - Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely; work collaboratively with ancillary staff, including Patient Care Assistants - Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes - Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers - Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment - Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital

The study coordinator will assist with the execution of clinical research trials and will be responsible for the collection, compilation, and documentation and collecting of research data, ensuring compliance and accurate adherence to research protocols and the overall practice of clinical trials. The study coordinator will process samples and analyze data. These positions provide opportunities to develop independent projects and obtain training and experience relevant for graduate, dental, or medical school. CRA provides support to facilitate all functions of clinical research from study design and conception through final contract, IRB approval, study execution, and closeout. The Research Regulatory Specialist will work closely with the Director of Clinical Research Operations and the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Team to provide administrative support of the scientific Clinical Review Panels (CRP), Clinical Research Contracts Administration and the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Collaborators with a deep experience in clinical research development and regulations, and have a strong interest in facilitating and streamlining processes among various parties are invited to apply. In collaboration with members of CRA, Legal Affairs, Principal Investigators, and study teams, the Research Regulatory Specialist may also interact with external stakeholders such as Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Device Manufacturer, Clinical Research Organizations, external IRBs, and external agencies such as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).   Job Responsibilities   Scientific Clinical Review Panels In partnership with the Clinical Department’s Scientific CRP Administrator, Chairpersons, HSS Research Leadership, and the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Program, the Research Regulatory Specialist will help promote and develop processes that allow CRPs to provide departmental-related protocol development, evaluation and oversight. - Assist in the development of guidelines for CRP submissions, meetings, study review, feasibility, prioritizations, risk level, and other review criteria. - Provide appropriate guidance and instruction regarding relevant review policies, guidelines and criteria - Promote communication between investigators, statisticians, administrators to facilitate team science and collaboration for clinical and translational research - Promote communication among research administrators, department heads, investigators, human participants, and institutional officials to maintain a high level of awareness regarding the ethical conduct of research and to safeguard the rights and welfare of participants - Educate members of the HSS research community to establish and maintain a culture of compliance with Federal regulations and institutional policies relevant to the protection of human participants - Orient new staff on the CRP review process and use of the electronic Clinical Application Portal (eCAP) - Administrator for CRP that reviews high risk studies. Organize CRP scoring and discussion, conflict of interest, submission of revised critiques, and debriefing - Perform quality control check of reviewers’ critiques to ensure their completeness, accuracy, and adherence to the recorded scores. Suggest edits to clarify language and remove inflammatory comments - Determine and assign reviewers based on the subject matter expertise required from the project’s description and CRP guidelines - Manage all real and perceived conflict of interests of reviewers against the proposed project - Monitor submission timeline and quality of draft critiques, provide appropriate feedback to study teams - Ensure CRP records are maintained per federal regulations and that the records are accessible, upon request, to authorized federal officials   Contracts Administration Working alongside Research Contracts Administration and Legal Affairs: - Assist with intake for contracts submitted to Clinical Research Administration - Troubleshoot and triage contracts incorrectly routed to ensure negotiation by the appropriate central office - Coordinate efforts, as directed, among HSS, clients, suppliers, external counsel, and/or consultants to facilitate timely execution of clinical research contracts - Oversee contract negotiation communications performed by Research Contracts Administration or external representatives on behalf of Research Contracts Administration; assess the status of contracts based on these communications, records and reports the progress of negotiations - Manage listserv communications ensuring escalated items are prioritized and resolved - Route agreements for signature with approval from Clinical Research Administration or Legal affairs; manages dissemination and filing of clinical research agreements. - Assist with Clinical Research Contracts Administration metrics reporting to ensure targets are aligned with established goals   Clinical Research Regulatory - Working alongside the Research Administration Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs team: - Assist Principal Investigators and study teams with their clinical research regulatory oversight - Assist in the review protocol logistics and feasibility - Assist with centralization of ClinicalTrials.gov services ensuring results are reported in a timely fashion - Assist in audits by reviewing and collecting regulatory documents as needed - Assist with IND and IDE submissions and annual reports, participate in pre-IND meetings as needed - Participate in HSS CRP and IRB meetings - Ensure that all appropriate regulations are followed throughout the course of a research project - Ensure that research protocols are approved by the Institutional Review Board and followed as written - Generate reports on the progress of assigned research projects   Qualifications Desired - Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred - Three to five years of research related experience in academic or healthcare setting - Regulatory and contracts administration experience - Solid understanding of regulatory requirements related to 21 CFR and medical device regulations - Solid understanding of regulatory application process - Capacity to communicate regulations to investigators and study teams - Ability to manage relationship with investigators, study teams, sponsors, and regulatory agencies when applicable - Detail oriented and proficient at reviewing and editing scientific and regulatory documents - Ability to independently interpret, analyze, and implement appropriate policies in a given situation - Ability to provide organizational and administrative support to research initiatives - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing - Ability to establish collaborative working relationships, manage multiple projects and deadlines - Ability to multi-task while maintaining rigorous attention to detail - Participate in special projects and task forces as needed - Performs other related duties as assigned

Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise.   Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Lionel Ivashkiv Lab Project Title: Cytokine Crosstalk in Inflammation   The postdoctoral fellow will work in the laboratory of Dr. Lionel Ivashkiv on scientific projects related to cytokine crosstalk in inflammation and inflammatory and musculoskeletal diseases. He/she will design and perform experiments that will utilize molecular, cellular and genetic techniques to answer questions about mechanisms that regulate cytokine production during inflammation. The projects will involve studying primary human macrophages from blood or synovium of healthy subjects or rheumatoid arthritis patients to understand signaling pathways and epigenetic mechanisms that control the expression of disease-causing genes. The position requires a Ph.D. in Immunology or Molecular Biology, and direct experience working with human immune cells using advanced cellular, molecular, and genomic techniques. This position combines  bench research with genomics and computational biology. For bench work, the candidate will have experience  performing experiments isolating and analyzing proteins and nucleic acids from primary human cells and clinical samples from patients with autoimmune diseases. For genomics, the candidate will have sufficient background skills to utilize advanced genome-wide techniques that involve high throughput next generation sequencing including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq. For computational biology, the candidate will use computational pipelines to manage genomic data and downstream computational and statistical packages to analyze these data, including STAR, HTseq, HTcounts, CuffDiff, DEseq, EDHE-R, and LimmaVoom.  The fellow will design and execute experiments and will meet regularly with Dr. Ivashkiv to review and interpret data and will participate in scientific presentations and meetings. The fellow will maintain accurate and detailed records and databases of all laboratory work and experiments. He/she will contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications, will publish their work in the highest quality and impact international peer-reviewed journals, and will assist with supervision of technical personnel and students. The fellow will demonstrate a high level of understanding of immunology, genomics, and inflammatory diseases, will apply advanced concepts from the scientific literature to their work, and will have the potential to develop into an independent scientist. It is expected that this work will provide insights about new therapeutic approaches in inflammatory diseases.

To that end, the team will leverage existing clinical and patient-reported outcome data, published reports, and original research to improve perioperative pain care and the management of orthopedic and rheumatic painful conditions.   Our team is currently seeking a PhD or Master’s level (with requisite experience) Biostatistician who will collaborate closely with Drs. Dale Langford, Alex Sideris, Christopher Wu, Robert Dworkin, and other pain researchers at HSS. The successful candidate may also be offered an affiliation with the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Program within the HSS Research Institute. This position entails collaborating on projects primarily with the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Management to analyze diverse institutional and other datasets and conduct statistical analyses -- including causal inference applied to observational data, meta-analyses, development and validation of imaging and other biomarkers, and analyses of randomized clinical trials -- and prepare the results of this research for publication in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.   HSS provides excellent opportunities to develop professionally, which involves strong mentorship and participation and recognition in disseminating research findings through scientific articles and national and international conferences.   Duties and Responsibilities: - Contribute to research design, protocol submission/registration, and analyses of observational data (collected during routine care or by registries) to generate causal inferences and real-world evidence and to develop and/or validate biomarkers related to pain - Data extraction, merging, and analyses from multiple datasets, including group-level data from published reports and individual patient-level data - Data management and statistical programming - Implement best practices in data management and analysis to ensure data integrity, quality of data processes, and reproducibility - Develop, supervise, implement, and maintain procedures for data entry, data cleaning, documentation, and related tasks - Provide support and supervision to departmental biostatistical staff as needed - Actively collaborate and lead in preparing journal manuscripts and other materials for internal and external audiences    Minimum Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field - Experience with causal inference applied to observational data and meta-analytic statistical techniques - Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in programming in SAS, Stata, SPSS, and/or R - Candidates must have excellent written and communication skills in English and must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, and collaboratively as part of a team   Preferred Qualifications: - PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field - Previous collaborative research experience with healthcare-related data is a plus - Demonstrated interest in pain or related medical conditions is also a plus

This includes patient education, collaboration with patients’ primary care physicians and the HSS health care team, insurance companies, and community/government services.     Specific Functions: - Provide education and advocacy in Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) clinics to primarily low-income, chronically ill patients and their families regarding their options under Medicaid managed care. - Provide assistance, advocacy and intervention to patients with out-of-network insurance seeking care at the ACC. - Proactively identify re-visit patients with out-of-network Medicaid prior to their medical visits, and request authorization for care from managed care insurance companies. - Collaborate with the HSS health care team and staff, including doctors, nurses, social workers, registrars and surgical schedulers, to best meet patients’ insurance related needs. - Make appropriate referrals to HSS programs and services, such as the Financial Assistance Program and Social Work, and community-based agencies, such as New York State of Health Insurance Marketplace and NYC Human Resources Administration. - Collect program data, including documentation of patient contacts and interventions. - Assist in developing public insurance related education materials for patients and staff. - Serve as an active participant in Social Work Programs Department, committees and job-related meetings. - Participate in special projects and additional duties as needed, including activities related to departmental and Hospital Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.   Qualifications:   Applicant must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be highly committed to providing access to, and equity in, patient care, excellent patient education and advocacy, and close team collaboration. Passion for the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, consistent with our Department’s and Hospital’s mission, is essential. Must be able to work independently after a period of orientation, with an Associate’s or preferably a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of health care related experience, especially related to public insurance.
