This position will oversee the financial planning of a $50 million research operations budget.   Research Administration is committed to providing faculty, research staff and administrative support staff with the tools necessary to perform the various functions required to ensure the responsible stewardship of extramural funds. Central support units, including the Office of Sponsored Programs, Contracts Administration, Clinical Research Financial Administration and Post Award Administration, partner with Central Finance and Research Accounting to assess the needs of our Investigators and to develop and offer opportunities for research development.   Reporting to the VP of Research, this individual is organizationally responsible for the day to day management of research finance and business development strategies of the HSS Research Enterprise. This position will exercise management responsibility over business, strategic management, and operational activities including pre-award grants and contract administration. This position will work in Research Administration alongside the VP and CSO and provide financial oversight of federal and nonfederal grants including funding for profit companies (industry, device manufacturers, etc.) while managing research’s operations budget.   This position will enhance HSS’s ambitions and success in obtaining external funding for research, training, and service activities by increasing our capacity in providing skilled support throughout the Enterprise by: - Allocating high level support to accommodate Investigators pursuing extramural grants while ensuring compliance with federal, state and city regulatory agencies and HSS policies. - Realigning pre-award administrative resources to manage the “lifecycle” grants in collaboration with post award administration and research accounting. - Codify the full range of policies/procedures in the context of compliant based best practices and ensure widespread training and dissemination of the policies/procedures. Job Function Includes:   Centralization of all Pre-Award Administration (federal, state, foundation, contract, etc.): Checking proposal budgets for accuracy, correct rates, and allowability of items proposed and ensuring proposed cost-sharing is required, approved and properly documented.  Oversight of team of 5 + FTEs. - Integrate and manage the contracts functions involving negotiating and executing research agreements, including subawards - Office of Sponsored Programs - Clinical Research Financial Administration Develop & Manage Research Operations Budget & Sub-Budgets: Maintain and review accounting process controls; recommend and implement any approved modifications; perform preliminary analysis and recommend solutions.   Enhance Business Development Relationships & Initiatives: contribute to organizational strategy; assist in the development of change management plans as needed. Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes. Strategic Planning: Collect data and perform research on details of transactions. Generate, review, analyze and communicate financial data that reflects actual financial performance against approved budgets. Prepare and present quantitative and qualitative analyses focusing on variances from budget and prior data. Support CSO/VP presentations, projections and reports to financial leadership: Construct and assemble data for decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations.

  Hospital for Special Surgery   JOB DESCRIPTION Clinical Research Coordinator for Jose Rodriguez, MD Location: Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY   SUMMARY: Dr. Jose Rodriguez’s Research Coordinator will be an integral member of the research team in compliance with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements; participate in all aspects of research management and quality assurance of data for a specific project(s) as assigned. ensuring efficient operations. Responsible for data management activities associated with clinical research at a departmental specific level. Performs data collection, data entry and assists with manuscript writing. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical and Regulatory responsibilities: 1. Oversees and conducts the informed consent process on studies as appropriate (requires appropriate training and certification of human research subjects training). 2. Manages data collection specific to research studies including but not limited to the performance of measurements for applicable studies, collection of clinical data from patients directly, and manage the performance of all other duties as put forth in the protocol. 3. Spearheads efforts to meet patient enrollment targets related to independent research studies. To that end, develops and implements various recruitment strategies. 4. Ensures accuracy of data from paper case report form (CRF) into an electronic format. 5. Manages and executes IRB submissions for initial approvals, re-approvals, amendments, etc… Ensures timeliness and accuracy of submissions and no lapses in approvals for the study. 6. Assist Principal Investigator with writing/editing abstracts and manuscripts as needed. 7. Provide overall administrative support for clinical research activities and academic commitments of Dr. Rodriguez including but not limited to: academic presentations, conferences, and editorial commitments. 8. Compiles and assists in analyzing and interpreting data in preparation for a presentation, sponsor/regulatory agency, publication, etc… with the assistance of project investigator 9. Collaborates with the research team, departmental research manager, and research administration, as needed, to ensure that research subjects are treated in accordance with all mandated requirements. Ensures that standards regarding subject registration, protocol specific tests, and required documentation are adhered to. Reports deviations as appropriate and resolves issues when possible. Escalates issues to supervisor as needed. 12. Responsible for the handling, packaging, and shipping of dangerous goods under supervision and in compliance with State and Federal regulations. These specimens may include tissue, blood, dry ice, and chemicals. Certification in these procedures is required in accordance with the Federal Regulations. Knowledge of good clinical practice for the handling of specimens and blood may be required. 13. Assists in patient care coordination by assuring patients complete patient reported outcomes prior to office visits. 14. The Coordinator will have access to the medical records of patients, and should appreciate this privilege, and maintain strict confidentiality with all patient medical data. A qualified candidate will have the ability to communicate in an effective manner with management, clinical staff, external sponsors and patients at HSS. The candidate will also have good interpersonal skills, as he or she will interface directly with patients and medical staff on a routine basis. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE | HSS Research Institute Translational Research Core HSS Research Institute, Hospital for Special Surgery   Location: HSS Research Institute, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY Research Focus: The HSS Research Institute Translational Research Core (TRC) at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), New York, is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate with experience in molecular and cell biology, and at least 1 year of prior research experience working with clinical samples under BSL2 or Enhanced BSL2 (BSL2+) conditions.   Minimum Commitment: 1 year (12 months)   POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Associate will work on projects that aim to characterize the impact of COVID-19 in orthopedic/rheumatologic patients, with emphasis in generating a tissue Biobank and defining immune/inflammatory signatures associated with outcomes and responses to treatment. The Research Associate will work in a multidisciplinary team and will participate in sample procurement and processing, and management of the BSL2+ facility.   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Retrieve and process tissues from patients participating in TRC-approved studies - Design/maintain databases, data collection forms, source documents, patient files - Aid in experimental procedures/protocols under the supervision of the PIs - Operate specialized equipment - Participate in laboratory meetings - Prepare progress reports and presentations - Train and oversee other approved users of the BSL2+ facility - Identify, screen, recruit, obtain consent from patients for participation in research studies - Administer questionnaires, interviews in person, by mail, and/or by phone - Coordinate patient visits, ensure protocol compliance - Prepare and submit study related materials to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)   Minimum job requirements: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - Experience with molecular biology techniques and tissue culture - Prior experience working in BSL2 or BLS2+ facilities - Proficient use of computers and software - Technical proficiency and ability to work in a team - Strong time management, and organizational skills - Clinical research experience, including management of confidential information
