Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) NPs are committed to personalized, high-quality healthcare and are held to the same legal and ethical standards of care as physicians and surgeons. Autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare professionals and other individuals, the NP provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services, including:  - Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, and injuries - Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays - Prescribing medications and other treatments - Managing patients’ overall care - Counseling - Educating patients on disease prevention and positive health and lifestyle choices HSS NPs serve pediatric and adult patients in an extensive range of practice settings throughout the hospital and its local and regional ambulatory sites. Their specialty and subspecialty areas include: Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement (ARJR), Anesthesia (PACU/OSCU/SDU), Anticoagulation, Cardiology, Diabetes Care, Intensive Care, Metabolic Bone, Occupational Health, Pain Management, Pediatric Orthopedics, Post-Operative Care, Radiology, Spine, Trauma, Wound Care, and private practice (physician and surgeon offices). The occupational health nurse practitioner supports a variety of programs and services, including new hire physicals, needle stick injuries and other blood borne pathogen exposures, biometric assessments and wellness advising, medical surveillance (review of vaccination records, administration of immunizations, evaluation of positive TB tests and conversions), and infection control activities for employee exposures to communicable diseases. In addition, the Occupational Health Services (OHS) NP provides care to injured hospital employees within the New York Worker’s Compensation system, treating injured employees from initial presentation through discharge, including co-management with specialists as required. The NP treats a variety of acute and chronic work-related musculoskeletal issues, including fractures, sprains/strains, repetitive stress injuries, lacerations, ocular injuries, burns and minor wounds, occupational-related stress claims, and chemical and environmental exposures. The Occupational Health NP role: - Performs pre-employment physical exams; collaborates with Human Resources (HR) to clear individuals to begin employment - health history, planting a tuberculin skin test (TST), ordering labs, reviewing immunization schedules, obtaining urine for drug screen, etc. - Orders and interprets x-rays (assessing positive (+) Tuberculin test) - Orders laboratory and other diagnostic testing; interprets results - titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella Varicella (MMRV), Hepatitis A/B/C, liver function tests (LFTs), CBC with diff; Quantiferon tests - Administers vaccinations and reviews vaccination records (e.g., Influenza, Tdap, Hep A/B, Varicella, MMR, COVID) - First line of contact for employee related health issues related to COVID-19 including exposure and return to work guidance - Develops treatment plans and documents patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR= Agility) - Evaluates and follows up on work-related injuries; collaborates with Risk Management, Case Management, and department managers for accommodations to return to work (RTW) - Responds, treats, and follows up with occupational exposures (e.g., needle sticks, blood borne pathogen exposures (BBPEs)) - Evaluates episodic sick visits, makes referrals as needed and instructs employees on self-care/management to improve level of health - Assess employees to ensure employee is “fit for duty” after being treated for work related injuries, illness, communicable disease, etc. - Responds to emergencies and assists employees with serious medical conditions - Assists with counseling, referral, and navigating complex self-care issues and life events for physical conditions such as: - hypertension, diabetes, obesity, pregnancy - psycho-social and mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder) - social issues (e.g., alcohol abuse, substance abuse, domestic violence) This NP position is based at the main hospital in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (New York, NY). This is a per diem position.   This position requires a motivated NP who is able to function autonomously within established practice protocols and a collaborative agreement.

We prefer applicants be comfortable working with patients and their families.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Conducts the informed consent process on studies as appropriate (requires appropriate training and certification of human research subjects training). - Under supervision, monitors patients’ progress while on clinical trials via observation, clinical interactions and performance of study-specific assessments as outlined in protocols. - Manages data collection specific to research studies including but not limited to the performance of measurements for applicable studies, collection of clinical data from patients directly, and manage the performance of all other duties as put forth in the protocol. - Spearheads efforts to meet subject enrollment targets related to independent research studies. To that end, develops and implements various recruitment strategies. - Assists with IRB submissions for initial approvals, continuing reviews, amendments, etc… Ensures timeliness and accuracy of submissions and no lapses in approvals for the study. - Ensures accuracy of personnel transcribing data from a paper case report form (CRF) into an electronic format. - Performs data queries reconciliation when needed. Provides timely reports to Institutional Review Board, Principal Investigator, National Institutes of Health and/or sponsor for each research project. - Participates in the development of new protocols, prospective databases and new initiatives taken on by the department. This may include independent design of databases and tools to facilitate data collection as required for specific projects (calendars, schedules, tracking logs). - Compiles and assists in analyzing and interpreting data with the assistance of PI for reports to IRB, monitor NIH, NIH and/or sponsor, presentations and publications of various research projects. - Collaborates with the research team and research administration, as needed, to ensure that research subjects are treated in accordance with all mandated requirements. Ensures that standards regarding subject registration, protocol specific tests, and required documentation are adhered to.  Reports deviations as appropriate and resolves issues when possible.  Escalates issues to supervisor as needed. - Prioritizes and schedules work activities to ensure that workflow is controlled and meets the need of the department. Communicates and maintains institutional/departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality standards, improvement initiatives and external legal regulations/regulatory requirements. - Responsible for the handling, packaging, and shipping of dangerous goods under supervision and in compliance with State and Federal regulations. These specimens may include tissue, blood, dry ice, and chemicals.  Certification in these procedures is required in accordance with the Federal Regulations.  Knowledge of good clinical practice for the handling of specimens and blood required. - Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, professional affiliations, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the field of research data management.

Unit Assistants provide key support to the perioperative service.   Responsibilities - Provides support to the multidisciplinary health care team to maintain and promote the standards of care and safety. - Provides assistance with transportation of patients, room turnover, equipment - Has knowledge of operating room set-ups for various surgical procedures - Maintains supplies at all times - Recognizes when equipment needs repair and follows up with appropriate personnel or department - Maintains a hazard-free environment by disposing of filled linen hampers and medical waste appropriately - Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers - Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment - Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital

Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise     Patient Access Specialist Patient Registration Casual WEEKENDS - 5am-1pm   A highly-visible role responsible for assisting physician practices with administrative aspects of patient care. The Patient Access Specialist is an expert in customer service and ensuring patient needs are met at the end of the visit. Specific responsibilities include: - Providing patients with documentation and printed materials related to their visit and treatment plan; - Prioritizing patient flow including directing patients to other locations within the hospital or facilitating transportation services for patients if needed; - Referring patients to hospital services as needed (ie financial navigation); - Collecting copays/payments and depositing all collections with hospital cashiers; - Verifying insurance and obtaining benefit information; - Scheduling appointments; - Facilitating scheduling and authorizations for urgent patient needs in conjunction with Practice Coordinators; - Addressing any patient concerns that remain after the end of the visit; - Providing back-up support to other staff as needed; - Providing exceptional customer service to all patients, visitors and customers; - Additional administrative responsibilities as directed by the physician, the supervisor or department leadership. Competencies/skills: - Superior oral communication skills - Exceptional customer service skills - Consistently displays professional appearance; - Consistently displays a positive attitude and friendly demeanor - Ability to escalate issues appropriately - Ability to effectively and accurately follow directions or instructions - Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; offers to help coworkers when needed - Detail-oriented - Experience with Epic preferred; strong computer skills required - Knowledge of healthcare and health insurance, preferred - Familiarity with medical terminology, preferred - Associate’s degree required. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
