The successful RN candidate will be focused on – patient advocacy and delivering the highest quality of care to our patients!  Working in an evidence-based nursing environment that commands excellence every day,  RN's will provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care to our patients and their families in this acute care setting.  Our core values center on respect, consideration, compassion for all individuals and maintaining awareness of diverse cultural and religious beliefs.  Your capacity to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and promote the highest standards of care and safety is critical to the mission of Nursing in HSS.   Clinical Nurse Responsibilities - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing practices in a clinical setting - Collect comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs & develop individualized care plans; update care plans based on progression and pathway as well as manage care delivery - Ensure that all prescriber orders are carried out appropriately and timely; work collaboratively with ancillary staff, including Patient Care Assistants - Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes - Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers - Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment - Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital

Responsibilities include: - Develops and maintains research databases with guidance from Principal Investigator - Performs data collection and data entry for studies as requested.  Schedules and conducts subject interviews, follow-up visits and phone calls to obtain data as per protocol.  Ensures accuracy when transcribing data from data collection sheets, medical records, or electronic institutional databases or other source documents into databases. - Performs or helps facilitate informed consent procedures following all regulatory guidelines.  - Participates in protocol development in collaboration with Principal Investigator and co-investigators. Conducts literature searches; actively participates in development meetings; reviews and edits protocol document; prepares study initiation documents. - Prepares drafts of protocols and manuscripts as requested by the Principal Investigator. - Performs IRB submissions for initial approvals, re-approvals, amendments, etc.  Prepares, submits and files IRB and all regulatory documents, ie., data collection sheets, protocol amendments, protocol deviations, adverse event forms, etc. - Prepares information required for reports to research administration as needed. - Ensures that all research related regulatory, institutional, and departmental compliance requirements are met as appropriate. - Conducts statistical data analysis and prepares statistical graphs and tables in preparation for research presentations, abstract and manuscript preparation or for other publications as requested by the Principal Investigator.

The NP will join our pediatric orthopedic team of 11 Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons and 8 Nurse Practitioners in our growing Pediatric Orthopedic Department at Hospital for Special Surgery. The NP will work in collaboration with the orthopedic surgeon to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients in the ambulatory setting. The NP will practice both autonomously and in concert with other medical professionals to screen and optimize care for patients who are seeking both surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care. The NP will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage conditions ranging in complexity. The NP will have prescriptive privileges for both medicinal and therapeutic age-related modalities. The NP will also serve as a resource, mentor and educator for the pediatric patient, their family and other healthcare members. The NP may also be expected to participate in departmental development or research activities conducted in collaboration with other pediatric health care team members.     Responsibilities:   - Work in collaborative model with the pediatric orthopedic surgeon and multidisciplinary team. - Conduct comprehensive history, assessment, diagnosis, and treatments of the pediatric orthopedic patient - Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care and teaching - Order and Interpret diagnostic studies and communicate to the patient, providing appropriate treatment and follow up education. - Assist office staff with peer-to-peer requests from insurance companies, letters of medical necessity, FMLA paperwork, and required paperwork from patients outlining their medical recommendations. - Clinical coverage of the primary pediatric orthopedic surgeon’s partners as schedule allows. - Participation in practice development, research activities, and departmental projects to improve the holistic quality of care for the pediatric orthopedic patient - Regular attendance in weekly academic multidisciplinary conference and participation in appropriate annual educational conferences. ** This position is based on our Upper East Side campus, but can require travel in the tri-state region up to two times a month.
