Research Assistant

Overview
This individual will be an integral member of the research team in compliance with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements. The candidate will participate in all research study related activities and quality assurance of data for the projects that will come out of The Sports Medicine Service. The candidate will play an integral role in day-to-day research activities and patient coordination; ensuring efficient operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research/Registry:
- Assist in the synchronization of research activities within sports medicine under the direction of the Associate Scientist and Research Coordinator and serves as a liaison between the clinicians, research staff, and other research assistants.
- Provide overall administrative support for registry/clinical research activities. Provides timely reports to Director, Institutional Review Board, Principal Investigator, National Institutes of Health and/or sponsor for each research project.
- Contributes to Sports Medicine research through:
- Recruitment process (conducts informed consent process)
- Data collection
- The development and build of Clinical Research Forms
- Assures that research is done in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Ensures that all research related regulatory, institutional, and departmental compliance requirements are met as appropriate.
- Handles I.T. communications (requests) and generates reports from the registry as needed.
- Facilitates completion of all internal documentation needed for research (IRB applications, conflict of interest forms, data collection forms, etc.)
- Assists in data collection for registry/research-specific studies including but not limited to the performance of measurements for applicable studies, collection of clinical data from patients directly, and manage the performance of all other duties as put forth in the protocol.
- Acts as a clinician’s scribe in the operating room in order to collect vital intraoperative registry data during surgical cases
- Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, research meetings, Sports Medicine grand rounds, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the field of Sports Medicine research.
- Assists in patient care coordination by assuring patients complete sports forms and patient reported outcomes prior to office visits.

Job Summary:
The Business Operations Facilitator is a high-impact role in a fast-paced environment that provides exceptional front-end and back-end Business Operations representation for the hospital. The Business Operations Facilitator is an expert in the areas of benefits and authorizations, responsible for verifying eligibility, benefits, and obtaining authorization for services, and involved in the pre-registration and post discharge process as it pertains to collecting payments upfront and/or billing for open balances. This position fields all international patient financial and insurance related inquiries. Also, Gwill ensure a customer service friendly understanding of insurance benefits while educating patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to all patients and customers
- Respond to patient and customer inquiries
- Prepare Embassy billing packets and provide estimates of charges, as needed.
- Enter and collect appropriate financial class information.
- Confirm patient LOG coverage, insurance eligibility, coverage limitations, and complete authorization and pre-certification of services provided, as needed.

Ensuring exceptional safety and the best first impressions for our patients, customers and staff, you will maintain our state-of-the-art facilities by performing a wide range of general cleaning tasks. Your primary duties will be cleaning patient rooms and common areas, and providing a comfortable and appealing environment for our patients. This will include: dusting and washing equipment, walls, and floors; removing refuse, recyclables and regulated medical waste; and sanitizing receptacles.
To qualify for this role, you will need a High School diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in housekeeping or related field preferred. Specialized vocational courses are a definite plus.

The Sports Safety Per Diem Educator will provide public health-based education to high school athletes, their coaches, parents, and administrators as part of the Sports Safety Program at Hospital for Special Surgery.

Job requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology or a closely related field
- 3 to 5 years clinical experience
- Recommended certifications include Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM), Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM), and/or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)
- Current CPR/BLS certification

Overview:
Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 13 years, is currently looking for a Full Time Office Manager (OM) in one of our MD Offices. In this role, the OM would be the key administrator for Dr. Claire Eliasberg’s practice. The OM will provide comprehensive administrative support, oversee day-to-day operations and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence for Dr. Eliasberg’s practice.
The successful candidate will be empathetic, positive and professional during all patient interactions, combining this with critical thinking and attention to detail. In addition, the OM will manage office staff and act as a liaison to staff in other hospital departments.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with patients and their families in person, on the phone and via email communications in a professional, personable and empathetic manner
- Answer phone calls and make calls to patients, physicians and other staff
- Patient check out after appointments and return visit scheduling
- Schedule surgical cases and new clinic appointments
- Manage physician’s professional calendars
- Act as a liaison between the office and other hospital staff
- Manage front end payment collection and insurance authorizations
- Train, oversee, and develop junior staff within physician office (as applicable)
- Proactively identify ways to enhance physician office operations
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree highly desirable. 5-7 years physician office experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Attention to detail and able to relay messages and information accurately
- Ability to derive practical solutions independently in a fast-paced environment, but can escalate patient care issues appropriately, if necessary
- Follow through with tasks to completion, goes above and beyond for key tasks or critical patient needs
- Adherence to patient privacy and HIPAA protection of data, information, as well as other HSS policies
- Strong computer and internet skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Must possess ability to learn new software tools & systems as required on the job

Responsibilities:
- Holds primary responsibility for answering phones in the anesthesia main office. Triages calls and provides information to internal and external callers in a prompt and professional manner.
- Monitors anesthesia telehealth consult appointments and joins the call as needed to notify patients if the MD is running late
- Schedules pain consults and triage calls for prescription refills and patient messages for inpatient pain management physicians
- Schedules interviews and other meetings for Department Director and AVPs; orders food for Department meetings and other events
- Serves as backup timekeeper for payroll and backup for OR scheduling
- Responsible for the collection of quarterly AR&T reporting for all attendings, as well as the Stamford site director’s administrative time study
- Delivers and picks up mail daily; distributes incoming Department mail as appropriate
- Orders office supplies and ensures adequate inventory of supplies for office
- Duties as necessary in the absence of Administrative Coordinator and Administrative Managers
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- One to two years of healthcare or office experience

Dr. Jonathan Kirschner specializes Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), Sports Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In this role you will assist the provider with outpatient office visits, as well as provide administrative support to an HSS physician practice and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence.
Competencies/skills:
- Experience with Epic Medical Records System required; strong computer skills required as well
- Knowledge of Medical and Orthopedic terminology preferred
