Regional Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC's)

Overview:
The AVP, Clinical Operations of Regional Ambulatory Surgery Centers, will serve as the front-line leader for operations, including serving as a resource for all levels of nursing staff in the ambulatory settings. The AVP is a critical member of HSS's Patient Care Services and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operations of all aspects of the clinical operations of Paramus, Long Island and HSS NY Regional Markets portfolio, including the East Side and West Side ASC's. This key leadership role will advance the organization's strategic objectives by ensuring clinically excellent performance across all HSS's Regional Markets locations, preparing and sustaining a clinically competent workforce that will meet HSS goals for quality, patient satisfaction, and overall excellence, and supporting growth and expansion initiatives. Critically important is the expectation that this key leader will create and maintain a culture of service, accountability and peer to peer support.
This leader will also ensure strong linkages between the Regional Ambulatory Surgery Centers teams and HSS Main Campus, to facilitate a culture throughout HSS.
The AVP understands the Magnet Program and culture; and integration of Magnet standards into the nursing department infrastructure. The AVP supports the shared governance model; maintains active engagement, facilitates site involvement in shared governance and enterprise wide committees to ensure ASC representation.
The AVP provides clinical leadership to nurses in the perioperative, intraoperative, postoperative, settings. The AVP will be highly collaborative and have the ability to effectively communicate and interact directly with all staff to create partnerships and relationships across all the entities in the HSS Regional Markets. With regard to the sites, the AVP must be able to work effectively with leadership and staff from main campus and site leadership to engender a positive culture within which the Collaborative will thrive. The AVP will foster strong relationships with nursing leadership at HSS Main Campus and encourage cross pollination wherever possible.
This position requires a forward-thinking, innovative, and enthusiastic leader who is willing to achieve growth and continuous improvement via research, dialogue, and collaboration.
This position is an employee of HSS and will report to the HSS Vice President of Perioperative Services, with a matrixed reporting relationship to each site.
Responsibilities:
- Leads and manages the day-to-day operations of All-Sites to ensure the highest-quality care to patients, families, surgeons, and staff satisfaction. Ensures cost-effective delivery of care.
- Develops an extensive understanding of all institutions and their missions, and the strategic plan and goals for All-Sites as a framework for influencing and negotiating positive change and further integration.
- Develops strategic goals for All-Sites Nursing, ensuring their alignment with the hospitals' business development and growth objectives.
- Participates in the creation and conduct of shared governance and organizational decision making.
- Advocates for All-Sites and its patients, providers, and staff through representation and participation on various hospital work groups.
- Works as the nursing leader for collaboratively achieving high-quality patient outcomes and representing both institutions professionally.
- Innovates nursing practices by influencing attitudes, modifying behaviors, and successfully implementing changes that improve patient outcomes.

Assistant Patient Care Director
Clinical Services
Overview:
The Assistant Patient Care Director (or Assistant Manager, Clinical Services, or Assistant Nurse Manager) will support the oversight of the clinical and operational functions of the patients on the 11th floor unit. The Assistant Patient Care Director will be a change facilitator. Responsibilities include working with the Patient Care Director, Medical and Surgical teams and Professional Development (PD) team to set goals and objectives in accordance with HSS strategic initiatives, as well as planning, organizing, and monitoring unit activities. The Assistant PCD will partner with the Patient Care Director with the fiscal responsibility for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost-effective daily operations. The Assistant PCD will assist with the management and evaluation of unit and staff performance while establishing an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential. They will coordinate and lead unit activities to assure optimal and appropriate care for patients, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and Hospital for Special Surgery. They will collaborate with the Patient Care Director, Frontline staff and the Interdisciplinary Team to promote the highest standards of care and safety as is critical to the mission of HSS.
Staff Development
- Collaborate with PD to facilitate staff orientation and development
- Assist with orientation coordination for new hires and training of float staff
- Serves as a resource to coordinate clinical activities to ensure the highest level of patient care, incorporating patient safety, interdisciplinary communication, patient satisfaction, and resource utilization
- Maintain and update Arthroplasty and Spine materials in collaboration with PD
- Collaborate with PD to work on clinical staff competencies
- Facilitate staff involvement in hospital wide committees.
Clinical Competency and Practice
- Review policies, post-op education material, pediatric education /medication for all clinical areas
- Collaborates with the team to coordinate the plan of care for all complex patients
- Active engagement, council membership and serves as co-chair on councils
- Complete/ Monitor NDNQI Audits in collaboration with CN IIs
- Complete/ Monitor Nursing Tracer and Environmental Tracer unit audits
- Support clinical operations of the unit as needed such as Charge nurse, and taking clinical assignments at the bedside.
Unit Development and Projects
- Utilizes performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomes
- Work as a leader, with CN IIs, on unit wide projects; 1 per year
- Facilitate coordination and collaboration between all Inpatient units to improve patient experience and workflow processes
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Partners with the Patient Care Directors regarding clinical practice, staff communication, time utilization, change facilitation and staff assignments
- Developing quality management and performance improvement activities
- Address areas of weakness and develop plans for improvement
- Partner’s with the Patient Care Director for performance management, performs performance evaluations and performance improvement.
- Partner with Patient Care Director in implementing operational policies and procedures and ensure operational efficiency is maintained
- Understand Magnet nursing principles and culture; drive Magnet initiatives
- Employee Rounding
- Supports staffing for all areas
- Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when interacting with patients and their families, visitors, and co-workers
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to improve workflow and enhance patient experience
