This project will evaluate the role of a novel B cell subset, ABCs (Age/Autoimmune associated B cells) in coordinating immune responses and in promoting the development of autoimmune and musculoskeletal diseases. Specifically, the postbac fellow will utilize state-of-the-art molecular and genomic approaches, animal models, and patient-derived samples to investigate ABCs in autoimmune disorders such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. While the primary focus of the work will be using small animal models, these studies will be coupled with an assessment of the accumulation and function of ABCs in samples from patients with autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders to develop precision-based medicine approaches for these patients. This position provides opportunities to develop strong translational research experience relevant for individuals interested in furthering their career by pursuing medical school or other clinical training. The postbac fellow will work in a dynamic team of scientists and clinicians employing cutting-edge approaches to study autoimmunity and musculoskeletal diseases. The selected candidate will be involved in research and development projects in joint reconstruction. Responsibilities will include building musculoskeletal and finite element models of virtually implanted total knee replacements to assess the effect of implant design and alignment on joint kinematics and loads, ligament balance, and the interaction between implant and bone. Mentoring and training will be provided by the HSS Biomechanics staff in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons from the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement service and staff of the Radiology and Imaging Department. The goal of the fellowship is to provide the trainee with a broad, multidisciplinary experience. For applicants who are citizens of the United States or green card holders, possibilities exist for NIH support through a T32 Combined Engineering and Orthopaedics Training Program at HSS and TL1 Training and KL2 Scholar Awards offered by Weill Cornell Medical College’s Clinical and Translational Science Center. - Candidates must have a strong mechanical engineering background including finite element modeling (Abaqus preferred), musculoskeletal modeling (OpenSim preferred), MATLAB, image processing, and must possess excellent written and oral communication and team science skills. - Salary is competitive and will depend on the experience level of the candidate. The candidate will play an integral role in day-to-day research activities, patient coordination, and ensuring efficient operations.   RESPONSIBILITIES: (50% industry related study tasks, 25% research related quality assurance, 15% study coordination, 10% administrative support)   Industry: - Serves as a liaison between HSS investigators and industry agencies and thought partners - The Research Manager will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of comprehensive workflows and project tracking processes, ensuring compliance in clinical trials across all industry related studies for the ARJR service. - This role will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, fostering process improvement and emphasizing training clarity while maintaining high ethical standards - Effectively oversee all elements of research trials within the designated study protocol including but not limited to contracting, budget, and milestone reporting. - Formulate and establish workflows, protocols, and recommendations for staff and patients, ensuring adherence to quality and compliance standards - Assist the Clinical Lead and/or Study Director in the planning and implementation, execution, day-to-day managing and reporting of clinical trial program(s) - Collaborate with clinical operations to develop and implement the overall data quality plan, - investigator meetings, safety review committee, pre-study site selection visits, and communications to study sites, etc) Research QA: - Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of research data, creating and implementing quality assurance procedures, and conducting internal audits to identify areas for improvement - Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and internal quality standards to maintain the integrity and reliability of clinical trial data and ensure patient safety - Continuously improve quality systems and processes within the organization - Conduct Audits: Plan and execute comprehensive audits of clinical trials.
