Overview:
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has a long tradition of major contributions in basic research, a new commitment to clinical and outcomes research, a track record of training fellows for academic careers, and a longitudinal commitment to providing care for patients with complex musculoskeletal diseases.
Research Administration is committed to providing faculty, research staff and administrative support staff with the tools necessary to perform the various functions required to ensure the responsible stewardship of extramural funds. Central support units, including the Office of Sponsored Programs, Contracts Administration, Clinical Research Financial Administration and Post Award Administration, partnering with Central Finance and Research Accounting to assess the needs of our Investigators and to develop and offer opportunities for research development. This position will liaise with our Research Enterprise and Research Institute’s (RI) faculty members who are conducting basic, translation and clinical research.
Reporting to the Senior Director, the Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management of sponsored research of the HSS, RI. This position will exercise responsibility over sponsored research grants and contracts administration. This position will enhance HSS’s ambitions and success in obtaining external funding for research, training, and service activities by increasing our capacity in providing skilled support throughout the RI by assisting the Senior Director with allocating high level support to accommodate Investigators pursuing extramural grants while ensuring compliance with federal, state and city regulatory agencies and HSS policies. Assist with policies/procedures in the context of compliant based best practices and ensure widespread training and dissemination of the policies/procedures. Assist with administrative resources to manage the grants “lifecycle” in collaboration with post award administration and research accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Support Research Enterprise and Research Institute Scientists, faculty and fellows with the development, review, submission and renewal of various types of sponsored projects from a variety of extramural funding agencies including NIH, DOD, private foundations, government/state, industry and other academic collaborators.
- Develop grant budgets and lend expertise to refine budget justifications and various components of an application; This position requires a firm understanding of grant finances budgeting skills including modular and non-modular budgets;
- Review and format proposal documents to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and maximize the proposal's impact;
- Ensure compliance with award regulatory terms and HSS policies, such as Conflicts of Interest, Human Subjects, IACUC and IBC approvals
- Ability to navigate various proposal application processes & assist with electronic proposal systems when applicable;
- Liaise with other academic medical centers to obtain required application documents for collaborative proposals/sub-awards;
- Advise, train, and ensure adherence to all federal, state or local guidelines, policies, and procedures;
- Work with administrative offices on award acceptance and project account set up including JIT and sub-awards;
- Collaborate with the Director of Research Institute, Director and Assistant Director of Sponsored Projects Administration and Director of Sponsored Projects Finance on project account management, sub-contract management, and project closeout;
- Support faculty with tracking of reports due dates and preparation of annual and final reports including obtain sponsor approvals for no cost extensions, re-budgeting, and carry over requests;
- Maintain records in accordance with internal procedures in an organized and transparent manner;
- Develop SOP and training materials to assure compliance with rules & regulations of HSS, sponsors, agreement terms, etc. in all areas of expenditures, effort, transactions, equipment, etc;
- Work with staff, investigators and staff to certify effort and other required attestations;
- In collaboration with post award administration, distribute salary in an accurate and timely fashion for all grant related personnel;
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of grant related invoicing, expenditures, payments, requisitions, purchase orders, etc.
- Grants management / pre-award IT system implementation and roll out by participating in ERP/Workday design, conversion, and implementation.

SUMMARY:
This individual will be an integral member of the research team in compliance with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements. The candidate will participate in all aspects of research management and quality assurance of data for the projects that are generated out of the Adult Joint Reconstruction Center. The candidate will play an integral role in day-to-day research activities, patient coordination, and ensuring efficient operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
(50% industry related study tasks, 25% research related quality assurance, 15% study coordination, 10% administrative support)
Industry:
- Serves as a liaison between HSS investigators and industry agencies and thought partners
- The Research Manager will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of comprehensive workflows and project tracking processes, ensuring compliance in clinical trials across all industry related studies for the ARJR service.
- This role will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, fostering process improvement and emphasizing training clarity while maintaining high ethical standards
- Effectively oversee all elements of research trials within the designated study protocol including but not limited to contracting, budget, and milestone reporting.
- Formulate and establish workflows, protocols, and recommendations for staff and patients, ensuring adherence to quality and compliance standards
- Assist the Clinical Lead and/or Study Director in the planning and implementation, execution, day-to-day managing and reporting of clinical trial program(s)
- Collaborate with clinical operations to develop and implement the overall data quality plan,
- investigator meetings, safety review committee, pre-study site selection visits, and communications to study sites, etc)
Research QA:
- Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of research data, creating and implementing quality assurance procedures, and conducting internal audits to identify areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and internal quality standards to maintain the integrity and reliability of clinical trial data and ensure patient safety
- Continuously improve quality systems and processes within the organization
- Conduct Audits: Plan and execute comprehensive audits of clinical trials. This includes auditing clinical trial master files, internal processes, investigator sites, contract research organizations (CROs), and other relevant entities to assess compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Host Audits/Inspections: Assist in hosting Sponsor audits and Regulatory Authority inspections
- Quality Assurance Documentation: Develop and maintain quality assurance documentation, including audit plans, audit reports, inspection readiness plans, and other relevant documents
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of audit findings, observations, and corrective actions taken
- Training and Education: Provide training and guidance to internal staff and external stakeholders on quality assurance practices, regulations, and industry standards related to clinical research
Study Coordination:
- Contributes to all aspects of ARJR research including but not limited to the listed key areas:
- Assist in submission and study protocol development
- Recruitment process (conducts informed consent process)
- Assists in the development of Clinical Research Forms
- Data collection
- Leads, Initiates, and implement study logistics
- Assures that research is done in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Will be responsible for milestone reporting
Schedule and holds biweekly and monthly meetings for study protocols.
Ensures that all research related regulatory, institutional, and departmental compliance
requirements are met as appropriate.
Handles I.T. communications (requests) and generates reports from the registry as needed.
Facilitates completion of all internal documentation needed for research (IRB
applications, conflict of interest forms, data collection forms, etc.)
Manages data collection for research-specific studies including but not limited to
the performance of measurements for applicable studies, collection of clinical data from
patients directly, and manage the performance of all other duties as put forth in the
protocol. This includes managing successful conduct of the study as well as research
assistants assigned to independent research studies.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Contributes to recruitment process, oversees orientation, in-service training, and
- continuing education for Research Assistants (RA)/Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC)
- and manages the work flow of employees. Manages overall scheduling, progress, and overall responsibilities of designated team RAs.

Postdoctoral Fellow - Laura Moore Lab
HSS Research Institute, Orthopedic Soft Tissue Research Program

Position Overview:
The Moore Lab is a new translational research group at the Orthopedic Soft Tissue Research (OSTR) Program of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). The Moore Lab focuses on improving recovery from orthopedic soft tissue injuries using biomaterials and drug delivery approaches.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team of surgeons, scientists and engineers, in a project aiming to develop of biomaterials to modulate pro-fibrotic signaling after musculoskeletal injuries.
Qualified candidates must have a recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology or a related field. Preferences will be given to candidates with expertise in biomaterials synthesis, modification and characterization. Candidates are expected to have at least one peer-reviewed high quality first author publication and should be highly motivated and productive. Good written/oral communication skills in English, and experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, RNA isolation, protein analysis methods), rodent models and cell culture in vitro models are highly desirable.

Overview:

The Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time Advance Practice Provider to provide expert, compassionate, and prompt care to patients with mobility disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), dystonia, tremors, etc.
Your role is essential to promoting a professional atmosphere through courteous communication, cooperation and respect for patients, visitors and members of the healthcare team. In addition, you will be responsible for upholding stellar customer service practices for patients and families, as well as acting as a liaison to the physician and hospital departments.
Competencies/Duties:
- Provide clinical consultation, assessment, and management to patients.
- Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment and follow-up of patients as directed by the supervising physician.
- Review/interpret patient imaging and lab results; communicate results to patients and provide follow-up treatment and education.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately when educating patient/family in regard to their medical condition and/or hospital course.
