Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise   Assistant Director of Safety   Safety Duties and Responsibilities: - Attend pre-construction meeting to assess the life safety deficiencies that will occur during construction - Determine the interim life safety measures that will be implemented during construction (e.g.: conduct additional fire drills, train staff of life safety deficiencies in their area caused by the construction project, etc. - Perform periodic construction site inspections and report finding to project managers, administration, and a “Logistics” Committee responsible for all construction projects. - Creating a monthly report to trend unsafe trends observed during the periodic construction site inspections. - Works with inspectors from various environmental agencies (e.g.: FDNY, DOH, EPA, DOT, OSHA, CMS, and The Joint Commission) - Member of the hospital’s Environmental Tour team - Inspects all hospital facilities to identify issues pertaining to general safety, security, hazardous materials and waste management, infection control, patient safety, medical equipment, and utility systems. - Generates reports and presents them to the Environment of Care/Safety Committee for discussions and observations. - Conducts, critiques, and performs assessments of Fire Drills - Trains employees, contractors regarding HSS Life Safety and EC Policies, OSHA, EPA - Maintains the HSS Tier 2 Hazardous Communication requirements for the NYCDOH and FDNY - Develop and maintain asbestos program and IAQ program including training and all reports, record keeping, follow up and filing. Assists Safety Director when needed - Maintain the Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals standard (PSM) identify risks involved with storage, handling/processing of highly hazardous materials. OSHA Standard - Conduct Investigations and Follow Up regarding all employee incidents and analyzes and make recommendations for corrective action and keeps all records current - Conduct inspections and create an inventory of all safety equipment and develop and maintain a PPE Program i.e. eye, ear, head protection respirators etc. - Monitors container labels (NFPA complaint). Develop/maintain a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Program. - Monitor the proper storage of cylinders and compressed gas chambers. Maintain requirements for flammable storage rooms (Alcohol room) etc. - Will maintain all requirements for the position of the HSS Chemical Hygiene Officer. Develop/maintain chemical, biological, radioactive, flammable waste programs/includes disposal manifests etc. - Maintain the FDNY certificate of fitness program requirements for HSS and compliance with FDNY Lab Unit. Must hold required FDNY COF's i.e. For Fire Drills etc - Assists Safety Director when needed. Required to respond to fires and emergencies, install PerfectServ App and carry personal cellphone and be on call 24hrs for emergencies   Emergency Management Duties and Responsibilities: - Direct and plan the development, implementation, and oversight of emergency preparedness initiatives and programs for Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) that increase the ability of hospital operations to remain effective regardless of disruptions caused by internal or external emergencies - Responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive and operational emergency operations plans (EOP) - Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital service lines and departments - Annually update the hospital’s hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA) to prioritize activities in the all-hazards emergency management program per strategic plan goals. - Conduct research and analysis of guidance and policies to assist in emergency management activities - Guide the hospital in completing emergency preparedness grant deliverables and take the role of Emergency Preparedness Coordinator - Support the Hospital Incident Command Team by providing intelligence and recommendations before, during, and after real events - Provide on-call administrative and leadership support to Hospital Incident Management Team Members Organizational/Managerial Skills: - Lead the department’s performance improvement activities - Serve as the co-chairperson of the hospital's Emergency Management Committee - Serve as the Emergency Management representative on the Hospital’s Environment of Care Committee/Safety Committee. - Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental and accrediting agency emergency management regulations, codes, and standards - Participate in other working groups and committees - Identify problem areas within hospital operations and develops plans for corrective action, implementation and follow-up to ensure the resiliency of operations during disasters - Maintain relevant documentation including up-to-date plans as well as meeting agendas, rosters, and minutes from meetings to ensure accreditation survey readiness at all times - Maintain up-to-date documentation for emergency contacts among HSS Emergency Management team members (Perfect-Serve, SendWordNow) and external agencies (GNYHA SitStat and NYSDOH) - Coordinate the readiness of primary and alternate hospital command centers inclusive of plans and equipment - Prepare annual Emergency Management budget proposals for HSS for review by hospital administration - Manage the disaster assessment and reimbursement process following disasters - Oversee the procurement, management, and routine inventory of the hospital’s emergency supplies - Complete Environment of Care rounds as indicated and appropriate - Recruit and supervise part-time and full-time staff and volunteers as necessary Educational/Professional Development: - Responsible for leading training and emergency exercises as directed by hospital leadership and/or the priorities outlined in the hazard vulnerability analysis - Organize emergency response training programs and exercises for Hospital Incident Management Team members, business hours and non-business hours staff, volunteers, and external responders - Train, upon request, hospital staff to the emergency management program - Evaluate planned exercises and real emergencies by producing an After Action Report / Improvement Plan for each significant event to identify strengths and areas for improvement - Evaluate and monitor emergency management corrective actions through performance indicators and other metrics Communication/Relationships: - Serve as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the hospital for New York City agencies and ensure that all local/regional responsibilities are coordinated among key partners during preparedness initiatives and/or emergency responses - Serve as the New York State Department of Health Commerce Systems Coordinator serving as a point of contact for the hospital for Emergency Management functions and responsibilities. - Serve as the hospital point of contact for the Greater New York Hospital Association providing information for planning and response activities. - Displays courtesy, tact, and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community - Establishes and maintains positive community relations by creating working relations by developing working relationships specifically with Greater New York Hospital Association, New York City or local Health Department, and New York City or local Emergency Management agencies - Adheres to HSS legal and ethical standards - May be required to perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, duties and responsibilities of the Director of Safety (see Safety Director’s Job Description)

To that end, develops and implements various recruitment strategies.  - Ensures subject research visits and follow-ups are scheduled within the protocol specified time frame and that all required assessments and procedures are performed per the protocol. This requires coordination with both the research subject, either by phone, email, or mail per compliance and with physician office staff and ancillary departments (radiology, operating room staff, pathology, etc.). - Ensures accuracy of personnel transcribing data from a paper case report form (CRF) into an electronic format.   - Manages and executes IRB submissions for initial approvals, re-approvals, amendments, etc. Ensures timeliness and accuracy of submissions and no lapses in approvals for the study.  Directs research assistants in this effort as well. - Coordinates with Principal Investigator, ancillary department, central research administration, and compliance office to help ensure that clinical research and related activities are performed in accordance with federal and HSS regulations and sponsoring agency policies and procedures. - Performs advanced data queries when needed. Provides timely reports to Institutional Review Board, Principal Investigator, and sponsor for each research project. - Participates in the development of new protocols, prospective databases and new initiatives taken on by the department.  This may include independent design of databases and tools to facilitate data collection as required for specific projects (calendars, schedules, tracking logs). - Represents the Principal Investigator in departmental audits as well as external audits performed by representatives of the sponsor for each clinical research project.  Works closely with HSS internal monitor for guidance on these activities. - Collaborates with the research team and research administration, as needed, to ensure that research subjects are treated in accordance with all mandated requirements.  Ensures that standards regarding subject registration, protocol specific tests, and required documentation are adhered to.  Reports deviations as appropriate and resolves issues when possible.  Escalates issues to supervisor as needed. - Prioritizes and schedules work activities to ensure that workflow is controlled and meets the need of the department. Communicates and maintains institutional/departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality standards, improvement initiatives and external legal regulations/regulatory requirements.  - Knowledge of good clinical practice for the handling of specimens and blood may be required. - Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, professional affiliations, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the field of research data management. A qualified candidate has the ability to communicate in an effective manner with management, clinical staff, external sponsors and patients at HSS.      MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education/Training:   - Master’s degree - ACRP, SOCRA, or similar certification preferred Experience:                 - 2-5 years’ experience in clinical research - Statistical experience, preferably using SAS - Proficient use of computers and software - Knowledge of Orthopaedic terminology is preferred but not required.  Qualifications: The successful candidate must have at least 2 years’ experience in Clinical Research. Strong organizational and problem solving skills as well as excellent written and communication skills are essential. Another responsibility of this position is to process refunds to insurance companies.   The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years billing and follow-up experience. Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology is a must. Proficiency in Microsoft Office coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise.   Registered Nuse - Per Diem OSCU 7pm-7:30am   As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, the successful RN candidate will be focused on – patient advocacy and delivering the highest quality of care to our patients!  Working in an evidence-based nursing environment that commands excellence every day, you will provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care to our patients and their families in this acute care setting.  Our core values center on respect, consideration, compassion for all individuals and maintaining awareness of diverse cultural and religious beliefs.  Your capacity to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and promote the highest standards of care and safety is critical to the mission of Nursing in HSS.   Responsibilities - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing practices in a clinical setting - Collect comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs & develop individualized care plans; update care plans based on progression and pathway as well as manage care delivery - Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely; work collaboratively with ancillary staff, including Patient Care Assistants - Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes - Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers - Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment - Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital Minimum Requirements - BSN from an accredited school of nursing required - 1+ years’ of acute care experience - NYS RN license and registration required - BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required Essential Qualifications - HCAHPS/EPIC knowledge preferred - Your scope of duties will include medical-surgical clinical competence, incorporating physical and emotional assessments, age specific competency, critical thinking skills, and educating patients and their family members regarding their plan of care and clinical pathway. - Strong patient centered approach with emphasis on providing exemplary and world-class customer service - Meticulous attention to detail - Self-motivated and proactive; a team player who knows how to think critically in a fast-paced, challenging environment - Active participant in seeking solutions to problems Hospital for Special Surgery offers a unique work environment, diverse job types and extraordinary career opportunities.
