Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise.   Research Assistant Full-Time 9am-5pm The Research Assistant is an integral member of the research team in compliance with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements.  He/she participates in all research study-related activities for the projects in the Anesthesiology department.    Responsibilities:   - Develops and maintains research databases with guidance from Principal Investigator and/or statistician.  - Performs data collection and data entry for studies as requested.  Schedules and conducts subject interviews, follow-up visits and phone calls to obtain data as per protocol.  Ensures accuracy when transcribing data from data collection sheets, medical records, or electronic institutional databases or other source documents into databases. - Performs or helps facilitate informed consent procedures following all regulatory guidelines.  - Participates in protocol development in collaboration with Principal Investigator and co-investigators. Conducts literature searches; actively participates in development meetings; reviews and edits protocol document; prepares study initiation documents. - Prepares initial drafts of protocols and manuscripts as requested by the Principal Investigator or Assistant Director, Research. - Performs IRB submissions for initial approvals, re-approvals, amendments, etc.  Prepares, submits and files IRB and all regulatory documents, ie., data collection sheets, protocol amendments, protocol deviations, adverse event forms, etc. - Prepares information required for reports to research administration as needed. - Ensures that all research related regulatory, institutional, and departmental compliance requirements are met as appropriate. - Conducts statistical data analysis and prepares statistical graphs and tables in preparation for research presentations, abstract and manuscript preparation or for other publications as requested by the Principal Investigator.  - Provides timely progress reports (especially regarding enrollment) for each research project at regular intervals determined by the Assistant Director, Research or Principal Investigator.  - Prepares and maintains orderly files for all research studies, including both electronic and hard copy paper files in regulatory binders. Works closely with HSS internal monitor for guidance on these activities. - Assists Attending MDs with academic tasks, such as preparing PowerPoint slides and conducting literature searches for presentations as requested. - Responsible for the handling, packaging, and shipping of dangerous goods under supervision and in compliance with State and Federal regulations.  These specimens may include tissue, blood, dry ice, and chemicals.  Certification in these procedures is required in accordance with Federal Regulations.  Knowledge of good clinical practice for the handling of specimens and blood may be required. - Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, professional affiliations, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in research and the field of anesthesiology. - Other duties and projects as designated by Assistant Director, Research. Department Requirements:   - Displays a positive attitude toward work assignments, performance feedback, and interactions with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors. - Willingly adheres to department and hospital policies and procedures. - Demonstrates and embodies organizational and departmental core values. - Maintains computer literacy, including proficiency in Outlook email and E-learning. - Attends department meetings regularly and punctually. - Must be willing to work flexible hours. The Division boasts an entire treatment suite with six patient rooms with high-end, high-resolution ultrasound systems. Our fellowship-trained radiologists are highly skilled in the interpretation of musculoskeletal ultrasound and routinely perform ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal interventional procedures. Our specialized technologists are uniquely trained in this high-volume musculoskeletal ultrasound practice. The Department focuses on both the imaging diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions/diseases and the treatment of specific conditions utilizing image guidance.   Position Summary The Sonographer position requires an individual trained at an accredited sonography program to apply learned skills to outpatient and inpatient procedures/studies in a hospital department setting. All functions are performed consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with facility, protocols, policies, and procedures, and applicable professional standards while ensuring the highest standards of safety for patients. The sonographer is also expected to properly store and maintain equipment, instruct patients on exams, and accurately log and document related information. Studies will include retrospective trials, outcomes trials, non-interventional trials and low risk interventional trials.   PROJECT TOPICS (non-exhaustive list) Peripheral nerve imaging techniques Brachial plexus imaging anatomy and pathology Imaging of nerve repair Shear wave elastography in the musculoskeletal system Ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal intervention     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   - Manages data collection specific to research studies including but not limited to the performance of observational measurements for low risk studies, collection of clinical data from patients directly, and manage the performance of all other duties as put forth in the protocol. This includes the supervision of multidisciplinary teams involved in the successful conduct of the study. - Compiles and assists in final analyses of data in preparation for presentation (scientific society meetings, sponsor/regulatory agency) with guidance from the study investigator. - Prepare draft research manuscripts for publication, under the guidance of the study investigator. - Oversees and conducts the informed consent process on low risk studies (requires appropriate training and certification of human research subjects training). - Spearhead efforts to meet patient enrollment targets related to independent research studies. To that end, develops and implements various recruitment strategies. - Under supervision from a clinical research coordinator or Sr. clinical research coordinator, manages and executes IRB submissions for initial approvals, reapprovals, amendments, etc ... Ensures timeliness and accuracy of submissions and no lapses in approvals for the study. - Assists the study investigator in departmental audits as well as external audits performed by representatives of the sponsor for each clinical research project they manage. Consults with HSS internal monitor for guidance on these activities. - Collaborates with research administration, as needed, to ensure that research subjects are treated in accordance with all mandated requirements. Ensures that standards regarding subject registration, protocol specific tests, and required documentation are adhered to. Reports deviations as appropriate and resolves issues when possible. Escalates issues to supervisor as needed. - Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, professional affiliations, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the field of research data management.   MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education/Training:     1-2 years experience in clinical research       Bachelor's degree Experience:    Proficient use of computers and basic research software Scientific background with knowledge of orthopaedic and/or radiologic terminology is a plus.
