Pediatric/Family Nurse Practitioner
4 days a week
no weekends
The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner is a Board-Certified advanced practitioner who is
trained to provide care, coordination, and management of the pediatric orthopedic patient. The
NP will join our pediatric orthopedic team of 11 Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons and 8 Nurse
Practitioners in our growing Pediatric Orthopedic Department at Hospital for Special Surgery.
The NP will work in collaboration with the orthopedic surgeon to evaluate, diagnose and treat
patients in the ambulatory setting. The NP will practice both autonomously and in concert with
other medical professionals to screen and optimize care for patients who are seeking both
surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care. The NP will collaborate with the interdisciplinary
team to manage conditions ranging in complexity. The NP will have prescriptive privileges for
both medicinal and therapeutic age-related modalities. The NP will also serve as a resource,
mentor and educator for the pediatric patient, their family and other healthcare members. The NP
may also be expected to participate in departmental development or research activities conducted
in collaboration with other pediatric health care team members.
Responsibilities
• Work in collaborative model with the pediatric orthopedic surgeon and multidisciplinary team.• Conduct comprehensive history, assessment, diagnosis, and treatments of the pediatric orthopedic patient
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care and teaching
• Order and Interpret diagnostic studies and communicate to the patient, providing appropriate treatment and follow up education.
• Assist office staff with peer-to-peer requests from insurance companies, letters of medical necessity, FMLA paperwork, and required paperwork from patients outlining their medical recommendations.
• Clinical coverage of the primary pediatric orthopedic surgeon’s partners as schedule allows.
• Participation in practice development, research activities, and departmental projects to improve the holistic quality of care for the pediatric orthopedic patient
• Regular attendance in weekly academic multidisciplinary conference and participation in appropriate annual educational conference

Overview:
Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 14 years, is currently looking for a Full Time Physician Assistant. Dr. Michael Parks specializes in the surgical treatment of adults with arthritis requiring reconstructive procedures of the hip and knee. Dr. Parks is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join his team. The PA will serve as a primary assistant to the doctor. Duties will include clinical evaluation of patients in the office, counseling patients and their families regarding proposed surgical procedures as well as addressing pre-and post-operative patient questions and concerns, and surgical first assist role in the operating room. There are no weekend shifts or overnight call, however, effective communication with the outpatient staff and inpatient hospital teams is essential. The PA will interact closely with office staff, other PAs, patients and families to be an integral part of providing a high level of clinical care and service.

Overview:
The HSS Orthopedics Now program provides consistent, immediate access for patients 12 years and older with an undiagnosed musculoskeletal injury or sudden onset of pain to be triaged, receive an initial diagnosis, and if appropriate, quickly connected to the right subspecialized level of care.
The HSS Orthopedics Now Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) sees patients at HSS Stamford to triage, diagnose, treat, and when needed, refer patients to a higher level of care in an expedited timeframe.
The NP/PA sees patients independently, in collaboration with, and with the support of HSS physicians. The NP/PA is an advanced practice provider who is licensed to practice medicine and provides a full range or primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services. The NP/PA is responsible for diagnosing and treating acute musculoskeletal injuries including, but not limited to:
- Bone, joint, or muscle injuries
- Strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures
- Painful, swollen, or injured joints
- Back and neck pain
- Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Pediatric injuries (12 years of age and older)
- Sports Injuries
- Steroid injections and joint aspirations

Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 14 years, is currently looking for an experienced Physician Assistant.
Dr. Talia R. Chapman is an Assistant Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at HSS specializing in orthopedic conditions and trauma of the hand and upper extremity. Her focus is the treatment of hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow injuries as well as fractures, degenerative conditions and benign tumors.
Dr. Dan Zlotolow is a pediatric and adult upper limb and peripheral nerve surgeon specializing in the care of brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, spasticity due to stroke, brain injury, or cerebral palsy, complex post-traumatic deformities, congenital differences, arthrogryposis, and limb deficiencies.
In this role you will provide comprehensive administrative support to an HSS physician practice and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence.
Your role is essential to promoting a professional atmosphere through courteous communication, cooperation and respect for patients, visitors and members of the healthcare team. In addition, you will be responsible for upholding stellar customer service practices for patients and families, as well as acting as a liaison to the physician and hospital departments.
This office is located in the Main Campus in NYC
Competencies/Duties:
- Provide clinical consultation, assessment, and management to patients.
- Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment and follow-up of surgical patients as directed by the supervising physician.
- Provide pre and post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.).
- Review/interpret patient imaging and lab results; communicate results to patients and provide follow-up treatment and education.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately when educating patient/family in regard to their medical condition and/or hospital course.
- Document progress patient has made toward desired outcomes.
- Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- First or Second assisting in sports and arthroplasty service OR.

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice professional (APP). Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) PAs and NPs are committed to personalized, high-quality healthcare and are held to the same legal and ethical standards of care as physicians. Autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare professionals and other individuals, the PA or NP provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services, including:
- Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, and injuries
- Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays
- Prescribing medications and other treatments
- Managing patients' overall care
- Counseling
- Educating patients on disease prevention and positive health and lifestyle choices
HSS PAs or NPs serve pediatric and adult patients in an extensive range of practice settings throughout the hospital and its local and regional ambulatory sites. Their specialty and subspecialty areas include: Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement (ARJR), Anesthesia (PACU/OSCU/SDU), Anticoagulation, Cardiology, Diabetes Care, Intensive Care, Metabolic Bone, Occupational Health, Pain Management, Pediatric Orthopedics, Post-Operative Care, Radiology, Spine, Trauma, Urology, Wound Care, and private practice (physician and surgeon offices).
The diabetes PA or NP position is an integral component of HSS commitment to promote quality care to our patients with endocrine illness and altered cognitive function. The diabetes PA or NP diagnoses, treats, and manages endocrine issues across multiple care settings including the pre-surgical screening, inpatient hospitalization, post-operative care settings, as well as non-operative care settings such as the infusion center. This includes providing urgent and emergent first responder roles to endocrine emergencies in patients hospitalized at HSS.
In addition, the Diabetes PA or NP will assist in providing follow up care for established patients as well as educate and elevate the practice of other members the interdisciplinary team regarding endocrine conditions
The Diabetes PA or NP role:
- Provides clinical consultation, assessment, diagnosis, and management of endocrine issues across multiple care settings.
- Manages patients with endocrine issues including acute and chronic glycemic control
- Educates clinical staff—physicians & surgeons (MDs), physician assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurses (RNs), etc.—on diabetes complication prevention, and identification and treatment of endocrine issues
- Identifies contributing factors to endocrine issues and suggests environmental and pharmacological modifications to optimize for surgery and ensure post-operative success
- Educates the patient, the patient’s family, and any other support persons on care techniques regarding endocrine conditions
- Creates best practice for hyper/hypoglycemia prevention and increases the socialization of the best practices for HgA1C management regarding surgical optimization
- Staff Meetings
