Sub-Acute Rehab Care Unit – HSS/ArchCareProgram Director OVERVIEW:   The Program Diretcor, Sub-Acute Rehab Care Unit (SARCU) is responsible for the clinical and administrative operations of our state-of-the art, inpatient rehabilitation unit, newly designed for the collaboration of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh (MMW). This unique collaboration will create the premier center for orthopedic rehabilitation in Manhattan, offering a level of inpatient rehabilitation unrivaled in NYC.   HSS is the world’s largest academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health and ranked the #1 hospital for orthopedics according to U.S. News & World Report (2015-16). Through this unique alliance, with ArchCare, we will expand access to patients requiring post-operative rehabilitative medicine, offering the best practices and protocols developed by HSS over its 153 years of experience.    Ideally located in New York’s Upper East Side, plans are currently under way for a new state-of-the art, 16-bed sub-acute rehab unit at ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh. ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh Home has been the community of choice for families seeking intensive short-term rehabilitation and exceptional long-term care on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for more than six decades. Guided by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, a religious order long recognized for its pacesetting approach to eldercare, Mary Manning Walsh Home cares for people of all faiths in an atmosphere of grace and elegance rarely found in traditional nursing facilities. Ranked Best Nursing Homes, Short-Term Rehabilitation (2018-2019) and Best Nursing Home (2018-2019) according to U.S. News & World Report.   In this new and highly visible role onsite, the Program Director will lead and coordinate the unit activities on a 24-hour basis. She/He will assure optimal and appropriate care for all age groups in the unit-specific population, consistent with the philosophy and goals of HSS-ArchCare.   Responsibilities will include setting goals and objectives in accordance with strategic initiatives of HSS-ArchCare, as well as planning, organizing, directing and monitoring unit activities. Additonally, the  Nurse Manager will be fiscally responsible for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost effective daily operations, as well as managing and evaluating unit performance and effectiveness of staff. The Nurse Manager will help to establish and foster an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.   Working collaboratively with all parties, the Program Director will be an employee of HSS, and as such will have a direct reporting relationship to the Vice of President, Nursing (HSS), as well as a supervisory relationship with the site Director of Nursing (ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh).   RESPONSIBILITIES: - Ensure clinical and cultural competence of staff - Promote employee engagement and collegiality - Complete MDS and Care Planning - Deliver outstanding customer service and safe patient outcomes - Optimize departmental operations and resources; be fiscally astute - Establish/enhance processes & procedures to optimize patient care within an outpatient setting - Assess and improve patient through-put from intake through discharge - Utilize analytics to benchmark process improvement and quality outcomes - An understanding of Magnet Nursing principles and the ability to operationalize them - Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers QUALIFICATIONS: - BSN required from an accredited school of nursing; MSN preferred - 5 years in nursing with progressive clinical leadership/management experience in a long-term care or acute care inpatient setting. - Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License, BLS and ACLS certifications are required, national certification in relevant area of experience highly desirable. - Strong patient centered approach with emphasis on providing exemplary, world-class customer service - Self-motivated and proactive, a team orientation and the ability to think critically and decisively. - Ability to effectively interface with medical and executive leadership in a hospital and/or long-term care setting; must be adept at working through issues with patients, families, physicians, hospital leadership and other relevant stakeholders. - Experience in and/or knowledge of a Magnet environment is helpful. - Ability to build trust and exercise influence in a complex, multi-departmental, and matrixed environment. - Technology savvy; ability to use new technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making in patient care and operations. - Knowledge and understanding of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; standards, protocols, and procedures governing the provision of nursing and ambulatory care.

Medical Secretary Requirement for Dr. Gulotta   Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 10 years and is currently looking for an experienced and energetic Full time Medical Secretary for the office of Dr. Lawrence Gulotta. Dr. Gulotta is the Chief of the Shoulder and Elbow Division of the Sports Medicine Institute at HSS. He specializes in shoulder surgery and sports medicine, including arthroscopic and open surgeries of the shoulder. The office is looking for additional administrative support in the role of a medical secretary.   In this role, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to an HSS physician practice and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence. You will also provide support for the operations of the medical office. Dr. Demetracopoulos is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. In this role you will provide comprehensive clinical and administrative support to an HSS physician practice and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence. The position consists mostly of seeing patients for initial and follow-up visits and office work. There is no OR time associated with this position. It is office-based only.   Serving as an assistant to Dr. Demetracopoulos, duties will include assisting with patient evaluations, participating in the diagnostic work-up and interpretation of diagnostic studies for foot & ankle patients, relaying results and treatment plans to patients, counseling patients and their families regarding proposed surgical procedures as well as addressing pre-and post-operative patient questions and concerns. You will interact closely with patients and families and be an integral part of developing great patient and collegial relationships.   DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS   - Provide health assessments, diagnosis and treatments for foot and ankle patients - Conduct medical histories and physical examinations - Manage post-operative patient care - Order and review diagnostic studies and communicate results to patients and provide follow-up treatment and education - Develop individual treatment plans for foot and ankle patients - Assist office staff with peer-to-peer requests from insurance carriers during the prior authorization process - Evaluate the need for medical necessity letters and complete them accordingly; complete other patient paperwork including disability, letters of restriction, return-to-work/school, Social Security etc. - Facilitate communication between physician and hospital departments, department management and patients - Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision - Promote cooperation through teamwork - Complete all in-service learning requirements including but not limited to the annual in-service learning. - Perform other duties as needed for effective and safe patient care     Qualifications:   Current NYS licensure, BLS/ACLS certification and NCCPA board certification are required.  Previous experience as an office based PA is highly desired.   Also, the candidate must have current Infection Control Certification and have completed a child abuse recognition course. Must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. It is essential that the candidate possess strong clinical skills.

Performs various bacteriological, mycobacteriological and mycological tests to provide data on cause and progress of disease. - Performs all quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains all related records. - Performs all quality control and instrument check procedure and maintains all related records. - Prepare solutions and reagents used in all test, with particular attention to viability, lot number and expiration date of substance before using in the performance of tests. - Process stat specimens expeditiously. - Participate in the QA/PI process and improves performance based on results obtained from QI activities. - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams. - Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment. - Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.
