The Application Testing Lead (Epic) has primary responsibility for development and management of a comprehensive testing plan including unit testing, integrated testing, volume testing, device testing, version and upgrade testing, report testing and conversion testing.  Comprehensive testing must validate numerous clinical, operational and financial scenarios and the Testing Lead must assure adequate testing in these areas. The Testing Lead spends much of his/her time on project management and test script development and has overall responsibility for the scope and quality of the testing needed for all Epic applications and related 3rd party vendor applications. During testing events, the Testing Lead engages with a variety of testing participants including application analysts and their managers, super-users and technical staff.  The Testing Lead is also responsible for assessing success of testing after activations and making any necessary adjustments to the test plan/scripts for subsequent testing scenarios.




  • Participate in the analysis, design, implementation and execution of the test scripts and test procedures to reflect proposed workflow solutions
  • Schedule the tests for execution and then monitor, measure, control and report on the test progress, and the test results, adapting the test plan and compensating as needed to adjust to evolving conditions
  • Responsible for Epic upgrades, ongoing loads of Epic Special Updates (SUs), communicate environment activities (for example, refreshes, downtimes, upgrades, and patches) and enforce proper environment use (build, testing, training, etc.)
  • Assist with data migration strategy and managing large data loads.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance the Data Courier.
  • Assist with project management for Epic upgrade projects to coordinate the activities of the application and technical team leads.
  • Collaborate effectively with Epic, using appropriate tools
  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner with accurate documentation
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve the completion of tasks
  • Troubleshoot problems and address questions from users, and provide on-call support on a rotating basis
  • Review and test changes, enhancements, and each new release as assigned
  • Communicate effectively across all impacted teams associated with task assignments
  • Analyze new functionality in new releases to identify impact
  • Provide assigned on-site support during go-lives and system upgrades
  • Assist with all quality assurance processes, including change management and testing efforts
  • Actively participate and contribute in meetings as assigned
  • Participate in disaster recovery measures and creation of down time procedures




  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Previous experience with Data Courier
  • Epic implementation or support experience
  • Experience in developing testing strategies in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of software test strategy, test script management and quality reporting
  • Strong desktop tool usage including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented , problem solver
  • Relevant experience and BA/BS Degree or equivalent
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and pragmatic; a team player who is analytical and solution-focused while meeting deadlines
  • Flexibility with work schedule and capable of working extended hours to accommodate clinical users, project needs and deadlines
  • Work on several key projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with all members of the organization
