Assistant Director, Patient Communications


Reporting to the AVP, Brand Marketing & Analytics, develop strategy and implementation for HSS’s patient journey communications that is in line with the organization’s marketing and communications strategy. He/she will ensure best in class communications throughout the customer experience through environmental; digital; publications, mailings, and collateral and customer service initiatives.

Patient Information Communication

  • Act as editor-in-chief for the Hospital’s main patient journey communications, the Patient Information Guide booklet
  • Develop succinct approach to content that is a.) on message and b.) informative
  • Work to primarily focus on print publication and distribution and to ensure communications are edited and integrated across digital platforms
  • Partner with clinical and admissions committee to develop editorial calendar, including process for gathering important updates from various patient-facing departments

IT Interface

  • Work with AVP to develop branded ‘products’ and communications for new digital touchpoints
  • Create brochures, posters, digital, and other communications for patients to ensure they are optimally using the Hospital’s digital communications channels in the patient journey (including use of MyHSS, Express Check In, etc.)
  • Write related staff talking points (to be included in education materials) for patient messaging
  • These digital communications are upgraded regularly and require ongoing communications support. Ensure ongoing, current of messages

Regulatory and Hospital Messages in HSS environments

  • Act as communications project manager for various business and regulatory messages for patients (m/v/v; patient rights; anti-discrimination/accessibility; etc.)
  • Oversee strategy, development and distribution of posters, brochures, digital communications
  • Ensure executive sign off on content
  • Maintain program of keeping messages current in a growing organization

Ideal Candidate, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Communications professional with interest/experience in patient experience
  • Experience in a Hospital
  • Experienced writer (three to five years)
  • Experience with Analysis; development of recommendations; and oversight of programs that involve multiple Hospital departments
  • Experience with multiple communications areas, including brand marketing, direct marketing, digital communications, in-store, and customer experience communications
  • Experience with communications project management (three to five years). Including experience with project communications including project briefs and timelines
  • Ability to partner with multiple hospital departments and clinicians to develop consensus on messaging
  • Ability to act as team leader, developing, overseeing and reporting on large projects
  • Ability to contribute to teams with content
  • Ability to adapt to the culture of the workplace
