Research Engineer

Biomechanics

Full-Time 9am-5pm

 

The Laboratory of Prof. Suzanne Maher, at the Orthopedic Soft Tissue Research Program at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), New York, is seeking a highly independent and motivated research technician with experience in molecular and cell biology.

 

The Research Technician will work on a project aimed to identify specific changes in knee joint contact mechanics after ACL rupture that have the most profound effect on the biological response of articular cartilage. The Research Technician will work in a collaborative team and conduct experiments involving tissue retrieval and ex vivo cultures, loading tissue in bioreactor systems, RNA isolation and analysis, and immunohistochemistry.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Retrieve and process cartilage received from tissue banks and the operating room
  • Aiding in developing and troubleshooting experimental procedures/protocols under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and senior lab members
  • Collecting and analyzing experimental data
  • Operating specialized equipment
  • Participating in laboratory meetings
  • Preparing progress reports and presentations
  • Training and overseeing students

Minimum job requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent with degrees in biology or biomedical engineering preferred
  • Some experience with molecular biology techniques, specifically RNA isolation, western blot, and tissue culture preferred
  • Technical proficiency and ability to work in a team
  • Proficient use of computers and software
