    Materials Management


    Hospital for Special Surgery is looking for an Assistant Director of Logistics who will be responsible for Central Stores, Inventory Management, Receiving and Shipping, Distribution and Mailroom.  This position requires in-depth, professional level of knowledge necessary to meet customer needs related to Materials

     Management, a complete understanding of material handling, inventory control and distribution methods and logistic data systems.




    Manages and tracks material services operations. Manages material services staff, providing support and on-going education for growth and development of staff. Identifies opportunities for service improvements, cost reductions, and product standardization, conducting research in support of such efforts. Works with Director and Purchasing Manager in the development and maintenance of the materials purchasing strategy that is consistent with the overall sourcing strategy to ensure HSS receives the best value for dollars spend on products and services. Supports use of Lawson and e-procurement for all ordering. Assists Senior Director with developing processes to manage inventory across departments. Supervises distribution system and processes in conjunction distributors and other suppliers. Takes a lead in implementing operational processes to support order, delivery and replenishment of products. Assists in education users on new processes.  Responds quickly to customer concerns and issues. Assists Senior Director in determining needs, ordering, maintaining records, physical inventory, and storage for surplus. Acts as an advocate for progressive material services concepts.

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Five to eight years in material handling, inventory control and distribution
    • Hospital experience preferred
    • Must have PC applications and network information function skill related to Materials Management
