    The Manager, LANtern® Lupus Asian Network, a national support and education program ongoing since 2001,  is responsible for the overall strategic direction, planning and operational oversight for program initiatives related to advancing the highest level of service for this community, in alignment with Departmental and HSS strategic goals. Lupus is a complex  multisystem auto-immune illness disproportionately affecting women of color. The mission of LANtern, the only program of its kind, is to support, empower, and enhance the quality of life for Asian Americans with lupus and their families by creating networks of hope and understanding.


    The position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Department of Social Work Programs. 


    Major job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Assess, implement and evaluate all aspects of LANtern to assess and insure optimal program services, sustained growth, and strategic outcomes.
    • Provide direct consultation upon referral from rheumatology adult and pediatric social workers, and other health team members regarding program services
    • Chair and collaborate closely with Program’s Community Advisory Board
    • Recruit, train, and supervise LANtern program staff, volunteers, and student interns to promote a team-centered approach
    • Screen, assess, intervene, and refer lupus patients and their loved ones to peer counselors and related community resources, as indicated 
    • Plan and implement LANtern’s Community Service plan to enhance professional and community member knowledge, well-being, and the highest quality of culturally tailored interventions.
    • Maintenance of program data, budget, and accountability
    • Initiate, and manage multiple projects, including community capacity building, research and evaluation activities, conference presentations


    • Master’s degree in Social Work with LCSW licensure strongly preferred; will consider MPH degree
    • Substantive program management, implementation and supervisory experience with 3+ years in a hospital/health care setting, with specific experience in the area of chronic illness preferred. Major teaching hospital experience is highly desirable.

    • Superior written and oral communication skills, and ability to be highly organized
    • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office software
    • Experience with participation in qualitative and quantitative research studies in a team-based environment preferred.
    • Bilingual (English/Chinese) required
