    Clinical Nurse (RN) – Department of Nursing


    As a Clinical Nurse (RN), you will become an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team. The successful RN candidate will be focused on – patient advocacy and delivering the highest quality of care to our patients! As a Clinical Nurses scope of duties will include medical-surgical clinical competence, incorporating physical assessment and critical thinking skills, relating to and educating patients and their family members with consideration and compassion and responding to each patient with thoughtfulness for their age, developmental level, cultural and religious beliefs. Your capacity to collaborate with your team and promote the highest standards of safety is critical to the mission of HSS.


    This is a full time RN position in The Hospital for Special Surgery’s Step Down Unit, a 13 bed unit, which provides intermediate care for patients discharged from the Post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) but who are not quite ready for the inpatient unit. To thrive in this area, the final RN candidate will be one who functions well in a dynamic, high-pressure environment and can work successfully as member of a cohesive team.


    Clinical Nurse Responsibilities:

    • Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care team in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
    • Collects comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs, develop individualized care plans; manage care delivery.
    • Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately. Work collaboratively with ancillary staff, including Patient Care Assistants.
    • Integration of patient care standards are incorporated into all clinical activities; Participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care.
    • Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers.
    • Promote a supportive, team-work oriented environment.
    • Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.

    Clinical Nurse Essential Requirements:

    • BSN Required from an accredited school of nursing
    • 1 year of PACU/SDU, ICU or ED experience
    • Current NY State registration, license and ACLS required
    • National certification in area of clinical expertise highly desirable.
    • Strong patient centered approach with a strong emphasis on providing exemplary, world-class customer service
    • Self-motivated and proactive; a team player who knows how to think critically in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
