    Overview

     

    As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, your focus will be - the delivery of the world's best patient care!  The Patient Care Director is responsible and accountable for the clinical and management functions of the patient care unit on a 24 hour basis. Unit responsibilities include setting of goals and objectives in accordance with HSS strategic initiatives, as well as planning, organizing, directing and monitoring unit activities. The Patient Care Director is fiscally responsible for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost effective daily operations. The Patient Care Director manages and evaluates unit performance and effectiveness of staff while establishing an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.  The incumbent will lead and coordinate unit activities to assure optimal and appropriate care for all age groups in the unit specific population, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and Hospital for Special Surgery.

    The Main Operating Room is located on the fourth floor of the main hospital building. The Patient Care Director will have primary responsibility for daily operations of the 25 Operating Rooms located on the unit and will work with the other Operating Room Units to complete the surgery schedule for the day.  Secondary responsibility will be close collaboration with the Patient Care Director of Pre & Post operations to assure safe, quality efficient care will be delivered to the patient population throughout the care continuum. 

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure clinical and cultural competence of staff
    • Promote employee engagement/retention and collegiality
    • Deliver outstanding customer service and safe patient outcomes
    • Optimize departmental operations and resources; be fiscally astute
    • Establish/enhance processes & procedures to optimize patient care within an outpatient setting
    • Assess and improve patient through-put from intake through discharge
    • Utilize analytics to benchmark process improvement and quality outcomes
    • An understanding of Magnet Nursing principles and the ability to operationalize them
    • Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers.

    Essential Requirements:

    • BSN Required from an accredited school of nursing, Masters in Nursing Preferred
    • 5 years in nursing with clinical leadership or management experience in the Operating Room.
    • Current NY State registration, license required
    • Board certificated in an area of expertise required; CNOR preferred
    • Strong patient centered approach with a strong emphasis on providing exemplary, world-class customer service
    • Self-motivated and proactive; a team player who knows how to think critically in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
