    The Laboratory of Prof. Suzanne Maher, at the Orthopedic Soft Tissue Research Program at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), New York, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with experience in molecular biology. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-faceted project that aims to provide unique information about the mechanobiological aspects of the initiation of cartilage damage after trauma:

     

    MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design and execute experimental procedures and protocols involving molecular biology techniques (RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, next generation sequencing), tissue culture, histology, and microscopy
    • Retrieve and process cartilage received from tissue banks
    • Operating specialized laboratory equipment
    • Collecting, analyzing and reporting experimental data
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments
    • Maintain strong relationships with collaborating laboratories and core facilities through clear communication and the sharing of protocols and data
    • Independently reproduce, evaluate, and improve laboratory techniques
    • Attend and participate in laboratory meetings and departmental seminars
    • Draft, write and edit progress reports, presentations, abstracts and manuscripts
    • Train and oversee junior members of the team (technicians and students)
    • Place orders for laboratory reagents and supplies when required
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or related filed in biological sciences is required
    • Experience in RNA isolation and qRT-PCR is required
    • Experience with next generation sequencing techniques and analysis strongly preferred

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Comfortable with working with human tissues
    • Demonstrated technical proficiency
    • Demonstrated excellent written, communication and analytical skills
    • Excellent organizational, supervisory and teaching skills
    • Meticulous in documenting and tracing reagents and experimental results
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficient use of computers and software (Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism)
