    Full Time Patient Access Specialist I - West Side

    Located on the West Side of Manhattan, HSS is developing a brand new comprehensive Center that offers physician office visits for medical diagnosis and pre- and post-operative care; radiology services, including digital x-ray and MRI; an ambulatory surgical center (ASC), and PT / Sports Performance. This will be the first one-stop-shop facility of its kind at HSS that contains all of these musculoskeletal services in a single, convenient, location.   

    This site will be one of several locations for the HSS Sports Medicine Service, a service that boasts a team of 27 orthopedic surgeons and 11 primary care sports medicine physicians dedicated to treating athletic injuries of the musculoskeletal system, with a special focus on shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and foot and ankle injuries. Overall, the Sports Service fields more than 70,000 patient visits each year and performs more than 10,000 surgeries. We have trained more than 100 of the Sports Medicine leaders in institutions all over the world and our physicians serve as team physicians and athletic trainers for 16 professional and college teams.  We have a strong focus on basic and clinical research with special focus on the ACL and Shoulder. This site will be the first HSS satellite to offer one stop shopping for athletes of all levels, including state of the art imaging, performance, sports rehabilitation, ambulatory surgery, and physician offices.

     

    A highly visible customer service position that is responsible for the reception of patients, families, and health care providers. The Patient Access Specialist I is an expert in areas of customer service, registration/scheduling, template management, benefit collection, authorizations, and the HSS Standards of Care. Maintains constant interaction with patients, families, payers and clinical areas. Has the ability to float to multiple patient access areas and/or knowledgeable in multiple patient access functions. Patient Access Specialist is expected to score in the top 2% of measurable categories.Will also work collaboratively with Schedulers to ensure support to physicians, nursing, and registration staff in the provision of care to patients and families according to established standards of care.  Will facilitate scheduling of appointments, conferences, diagnostic testing, pre-surgical clearance and surgery as directed by physicians’ orders.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Prioritize patient flow
    • Modify, update, and maintain the scheduling template for the unit and/or department
    • Obtain patient demographics, personal information, and medical history by interviewing patients
    • Verify insurance and obtain benefits
    • Obtain authorizations for services
    • Triage phone calls and schedule appointments
    • Respond to patient, visitor, and customer inquiries
    • Collect payments

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. required; Bachelors preferred
    • One or more years in a healthcare role
