    MANAGER INSURANCE & REAL ESTATE

     

    POSITION MISSION:

     

    The Manager of Insurance & Real Estate, reporting to the Senior Director of the Insurance & Real Estate department, is a newly created position that will focus on the management of the Hospital’s comprehensive enterprise-wide insurance program. He or she will play an integral role in managing the insurance program to ensure that HSS’ assets are protected in the most comprehensive yet cost effective manner. He or she will maintain a thorough and ongoing familiarity with the wide array of risks that the hospital faces and procure and manage all commercial insurance coverage (and be part of the team managing the coverage offered by HSS’ captive insurance company). This position is not directly responsible for risk management or claims activities, other than providing information or data that may be needed to support these activities.

     

    This role requires an ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization. It is critical to have strong analytical skills, superior attention to detail and also possess a willingness to take initiative. 

     

    The position will also serve as back up to support, when needed, the Assistant Director of Insurance & Real Estate who will be primarily focused on the Hospital’s real estate portfolio consisting of over 30 owned and leased locations.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    The specific responsibilities related to the Manager position include, but are not limited to:

    • Manage the insurance renewal process: strategize with brokers; gather information and data needed to complete insurance renewals; review for accuracy and finalize for timely submission; develop renewal presentations and obtain approval from senior management to bind
    • Work with Legal & Risk Management, Sports Marketing, Procurement and other departments to develop insurance requirements for in contracts/agreements; review and update as required to ensure meet internal insurance guidelines
    • Review of Contracts: Implement guidelines and formalize review process for insurance requirements relating to all 3rd party contracts
    • Oversee day-to-day insurance tasks – work closely with the group’s Analyst to:
      • Oversee Certificates of Insurance; review all Certificates of Insurance provided by 3rd parties and issuance of Cert required by Contract or Agreement
      • Review insurance binders and policies once issued for accuracy; follow-up with insurance broker if corrections are needed
      • Respond to ad hoc requests for information from underwriters and internal clients 
    • Provide direct support for the Hospital’s captive insurance company – assist captive team in annual renewal and key support for bi-annual captive board meetings
    • Support insurance needs for newly formed companies, JV’s, and partnerships; includes cost allocations
    • Assist in updating the insurance budget on an annual basis
    • Draft and update PowerPoint presentations for the annual insurance review and other ad hoc insurance renewal presentations, etc. and shepherd to completion with input from various constituents
    • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director and/or Assistant Director of Insurance & Real Estate

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Associate of Risk Management (”ARM”) designation or willingness to obtain

     EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: 

    • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive insurance experience (risk management, insurance carrier, or broker)
    • Technology and system savvy: excellent understanding of processes, systems, and databases
    • Competency with Microsoft business software, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with excellent listening skills and reading comprehension
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills; team player who understands his/her role in relationship to others
    • Well organized and disciplined, with well-developed project management capability; detailed and thorough; can proactively manage multiple priorities and projects on tight deadlines
    • Extremely detail oriented with a keen focus on accuracy
    • Unquestionable personal integrity; highly credible and professional; quickly builds confidence in others
