    Project Manager, Applications


    The Hospital for Special Surgery Information Technology Department is seeking a Project Manager to join our Applications Team and play a key role in our IT Project Management Office. The Project Manager will be responsible for implementing a portfolio of technology projects across the inpatient and ambulatory setting. The role will require coordination of deliverables and tasks across various application teams, and oversight of the implementation life cycle. The role requires a strong understanding of clinical workflows in a hospital environment and significant experience implementing Epic and related software.  The Project Manager should be experienced in working in a fast-paced, results driven environment and focused on providing exceptional customer service.  The role requires a highly effective communicator who is comfortable collaborating with application teams and operational sponsors.



    • Manage large complex application projects, including the implementation and deployment of new software and solutions

    • Develop pricing/cost estimates for new projects

    • Develop workplans and ensure effective scope, cost, timeline, issues, risk and communication management throughout implementation

    • Facilitate sponsors and application team members in scoping and executing complex, clinical IT projects

    • Develop and lead cross-functional project teams, ensuring adherence to agreed project timelines

    • Produce timely project summaries and high-level reports to ensure effective communication with approved project governance and stakeholders

    • Work to control change and (where applicable) adjusts scope, budget and timeline

    • Manage/escalate project risks and issues appropriately

    • Develop and lead the execution of testing plans, including any onsite hardware testing as needed

    • Partner with IT Training team to develop any new training programs as needed

    • Ensure alignment of project goals to customer expectations, applying proper quality assurance and user acceptance of solutions prior to implementation

    • Develop and lead the execution of go-live activation plans, including onsite and on-call support

    • Develop post go-live transition plans to ensure proper ongoing maintenance support and captures lessons learned for future projects

    • Adhere to approved HSS Project Management Office policies/procedures and contributes to the constant advancement of project management practices at HSS IT

    • Complete other duties as assigned




    Minimum Requirements:

    • 5-10 years managing IT project implementations involving software applications or other technologies

    • At least 3-5 years of experience managing projects in an Epic environment

    • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, either inpatient or ambulatory, ideally both

    • Strong understanding of the health-care environment

    • Expert level proficiency with MS Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Visio

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Demonstrated success in working with and leading multiple teams from different disciplines as well as the ability to manage internal expectations on project requirements and timelines.

    • Ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently, resolve conflicts and manage project plans as well as communicate risks, issues and concerns with operational counterparts

    • Self-motivated and detail-oriented; a team player who is analytical and focused on achieving HSS’s business goals through technology

    • Bachelor’s degree required (MS or MBA preferred)

    • Epic certification preferred

    • MS Project or other project scheduling software experience required

    • PMP or ITIL certification strongly preferred
