    Hand and Upper Extremity

    (NP must have current NY and NJ NP license) 

     

    Dr. Daniel Osei is a dedicated clinician that specializes in simple and complex conditions within the hand and upper extremity with clinical interest in those within the hands, wrists, forearms, and elbows. Additionally, he treats peripheral nerve injuries and other nerve conditions in the upper and lower extremities. As a member of Dr. Osei’s clinical team, the successful candidate will work collaboratively to optimize team performance and patient outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing high quality and effective patient care through the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopaedic conditions. This position is primarily clinic based with limited or no OR responsibilities. The Nurse Practitioner shares responsibility for the provision of excellent health care in compliance with state and federal requirements, and practices within the guidelines of the Hospital for Special Surgery. We are seeking an excellent clinician to provide care to patients at the Main Campus of the Hospital for Special Surgery located in New York City and our Paramus, New Jersey location.

     

     

    Competencies / Duties

     

    The successful candidate will be able to:

    • Perform complete and accurate history and physical exams.
    • Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment and follow-up of surgical patients as directed by the supervising physician.
    • Provide post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.).
    • Communicate effectively and appropriately when educating patient/family with regard to their medical condition and/or hospital course.
    • Document progress patient has made toward desired outcomes.
    • Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.
    • Maintain clear and legible history and physical documentation and all other written reports.
    • Functions as a liaison between other surgeon’s offices, primary care providers, nurse case managers, inpatient personnel and health care professionals in other specialties.
    • Triages and answers patient calls, and calls in prescriptions under the direction of a physician order.
    • Promote cooperation through teamwork.
    • Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Candidate must have current New York State and New Jersey NP Licensing.

     

    Graduation from an accredited NP program, current NY & NJ licensure, BLS/ACLS certification and board certification are required.  Previous experience as an orthopaedic NP highly desired.

     

    Current Infection Control Certification and have completed a child abuse recognition course. The NP must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. It is essential that the candidate possess strong clinical skills.
